Free CSS Gallery Theme

January 30th, 2008 Posted by Shabu, filed under Blog

Recently I have started a CSS Gallery site by a customized script; I bought that script form Maxiscript.com by $100. The script did not meet my expectations, it shows same image for detail page and thumbnail (by manual size compression)!

I knew that there are a lot CSS showcase site powered by WordPress but I had no idea how to do that with WP. I’m a newbie on WordPress.

Last week I thought of trying WP for CSS Gallery theme like I have in my CSSDaddy.com. So, I started to work on it and within 2 days my gallery theme was ready to use.

Though it was in WP But the problem was same like the script I have bought; it was using same image for thumb and detail page. It will take time to load a main page and detail page can’t use a bigger image.

As I started thinking to release this theme for free! But People won’t like it, if it takes time to load. So, I started to search that how can I show a thumbnail on main page and a bigger image for detail pages. I found a lot of blog posts about custom field in WP. Also found a great post with details PHP code for implementing custom field on theme.

I found a great door to make the CSS Gallery theme for public release :)

After completing the theme, I was thinking of using it in my site OS Designer. OS Designer was using a custom script since 2006 for template downloads. So it had many extended features. After a lot of research I have added extended functionality in CSS Gallery theme and made it ready to use in OS Designer!

Right now OS Designer is using WordPress! Not to mention that maximum features are done by custom fields!

Special thanks to bloggers:

Giving each WordPress post a thumbnail, and display the thumbnail on the home page

Change Default Thumbnail Size in WordPress 2.3 (I have a couple of comments there)

Special thanks to friends:

Iceberg, Titu and Rezwan: They were asking everyday about the release day of CSS Gallery theme!

The trackback above (from moneyblog) is from an article that was actually published at Performancing:

    http://performancing.com/blogging-tools/48-unique-ways-use-wordpress

For some reason, the latter doesn’t show as a trackack. Instead, the site that copied it does.

There is a recent article at Performancing.com that uses your Gallery theme to build a web directory. I understand that there are a couple more articles coming that use your gallery theme. Keep an eye out there.

Just curious - How did you get this blog working with your Gallery theme? Out of the box, using “blog” as a category does not do it.

    (1) Did you have to tweak your code?
    (2) Did you have to use a different template file?

I have seen your post, thats a great idea. I know a site that is acting as a web directory - http://www.webmasterlink.co.uk

I have added blog category and using a different templates for this category. Regardless to say that I had to make another category templates for my others category.

Let me know if you need this tweak, I’ll be happy to help you. Email me pls :)

    Hi,

I love the concept of this theme, but am having a lot of trouble getting it to work.

I’ve created a post, but I cannot get any images or text content to show up? I’ve tried to follow the link for adding a thumbnail with custom fields - but no luck?

    Any help?

    Thanks!

I think you did not used custom fields, email me your WP admin pass. I’ll add one post for example.
